Malvern East- Meet Your Neighbours

 February 16, 2021

Making the move to a new suburb can be a challenging task. You don’t know the best places for dinner, you’re unsure of where amenities are, and worst of all you’re unsure of where to get the best coffee!

Well have no fear, we at Cornus are masters of our domain, and by domain, we mean Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. We have curated a list of the best places to shop, eat and spend your time outside of your new apartment in Malvern East.

Shopping

Chadstone

There’s no doubt that Chadstone is every Melbournian’s favorite shopping destination. It houses some of the best international and domestic designers on offer and you can grab anything you need all in one place. Whether it’s an air fryer from K-Mart, some groceries from coles or a new Gucci bag, you can literally shop until you drop. In addition to this, did you know it’s only a 5 minute walk from the Malvern East II apartment complex?!? We know, it’s the ultimate convenience.

Chadstone is also currently undergoing a major revamp, which entails; additional car parks (not that you’ll be needing that), an upgraded food precinct, an expansion of the leisure and dining precinct, and a nine story commercial office building. The primary focus of this upgrade is to increase the lifestyle of Chadstone and support the district to become an employment hub.

After the year that 2020 was, there’s no better way to shop than to support local and small businesses. We at Cornus believe it’s these businesses that shape these suburbs and give them the character and individuality that the residents love. So, we have shopped and curated a list of some of our favourite homewares shops that are located in Malvern East. These shops are also perfect for styling your new apartment.

Established for design

If you’re looking for unique, locally sourced pieces then EFD is the right shop for you. The owners pride themselves on sourcing the best Australian, and international designer pieces that are creative, combining art and modern living. The store was berthed with the pillars of a “love of design, an appreciation for function, quality, craftsmanship, and aesthetic value” and when you step foot into this store, you can see that these values are very clearly displayed, through the curation of the pieces selected.

Nepal Dining Room

Is one of the area’s most popular restaurants and once you go you’ll understand why. The cuisine is a modern take on Nepalese culture and it does not disappoint. If you love robust flavours, chilli and a different cuisine then Nepal Dining Room is a must!

Stanley

This cafe has been featured in many online blogs and it so rightfully deserves to. The cafe has a cool vibe with its owners also running other local legendary cafes; Clubhouse, Juliette, Bentwood, and Legacy. The team knows how to do a Melbourne brunch and is trendy, tasty, and features amazing coffee. What more could you want from a local?!

Jack & The Beans Talk

This cafe is a locals favourite, because they serve everything you could want in a brunch spot. The team is friendly, warm, and actually takes the time to know your name. The versatile menu has a fan fav for everyone. Whether it is a hangover breakfast burger, smash avo, or an açai bowl, they’ve got you covered, also did we mention BYO dog.

Parks & Nature

Malvern East is renowned for it’s green status. With streets lined with trees it’s picturesque, romantic and dreamy vibe almost every day of the year.

Central Park

Spend time lapping up the sunshine in some of Melbourne’s most decadent parks. Central Park is almost 19 acres of inner-city parkland! Not to mention it has a dog-friendly park too, so you can take your furry four-legged friend down for a play date.  It also has a great running track for any fitness enthusiasts and an abundance of grassland nestled between avenue trees, so you can set up a picnic or just take a book, bask, and relax in the sunshine.

Hedgeley Dene Gardens

Hedgeley Dene Gardens has a very serene and calming ambiance. The park has a long-established history; being a park, then a golf course, then a dairy farm, only to return to its roots of becoming parkland once again in 1911. It’s a beautiful park to spend time in absorbing the Turkey Oak trees, deciduous and broadleaf trees, and the ornamental lake.
